the wick of the spirit lamp does not burn even though the spirit is burning. why?

Dear Student!

As the spirit burns, it also vapourizes. This vapourizing action does not let the wick burn as it is cooled and does not reach ignition point . Moreover, spirit is absorbed by the capillary  action. Thus, spirit lamp wick continues to burn  at one of the end.
