We are given that there is a food provision for 40 persons for 10 days
When 10 more persons join the group, then total number of persons = 50Let the number of days for which food provision last when 10 more persons join the group = x days

In tabular form,

Now, we see that more the number of persons, then sooner will the food provision exhaust
Hence, number of persons varies inversely with the number of days
So, 40 × 10 = 50 × x⇒x = 40 × 1050 = 8Hence the food provision will last for 8 days when there are 50 persons in the group
