"toxic proteins is encoded by a gene called cry"

this sentence means that the gene cry function is to produce the toxic protein( tell me if my interpretation is right?)

"the genes encoded by cryIAC and cry IIAB control cotton bollworms"

what does this sentence mean ?isn't cryIAC and CRYIIAB the gene which encode?

Dear Student,

Bt Toxin is produced to provide resistance from the insects to the plants. It is created by using strains by Bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis.
These bacterium are responsible for forming crystals of proteins which are toxic.
Bt toxins are produced in inactivated form and can be activated by ingestion by insects.
Toxins are encoded by a gene named Cry. This means that the Toxin is coded by the gene Cry and not produced.
There is difference between encoding and producing.

Cry IAc and Cry IIAb are the genes that are responsible for encoding proteins which controls cotton bollworm.

Regards.
