is it true that we can make an iron peice to a magnet only using a bar magnet

If a bar magnet is run over several times on a unmagnetized iron piece, it may get magnetized. If you tie this iron piece with the bar magnet and keep it for a long time, there is a chance that iron piece may get magnetized. Both of these methods take very long time, and requires patience.
