Two conductors one having resistance R and another 2R are connected in turn across a d.c.source.If the rate of heat produced in two conductors is Q1 and Q2 respectively, what is the value of Q1/Q2?

 Let I be the current produced by dc source and t is the time for which the current flows through the resistances.
As heat produced in a conductor of resistance R by electric current is given by the expression :
H = I2Rt,
Let H1and H2 be the heat produced and Q1 and Q2 are the rate of heat produced in two conductors of resistances R and 2R respectively.
According to question :
Q1 = H1/t = I2R
and Q2 = H2/t = I2(2R)
hence, Q1/Q2 = 1/2
