Two objects of masses 100g and 200g are moving along the same line and direction with velocities of 2m/s and 1m/s respectively. They collide and after the collision ,the first object moves with a velocity of 1.67 m/s . determine the velocity of the second object

Dear Student,
Here m =100 g = 0.01kg

m' = 200 g = 0.02kg

u = 2m/s and u' = 1m/s
v = 1.67m/s
According to the law of conservation of momentum:
Total momentum before collision = Total momentum after collision
mu + m'u' = mv + m'v'
0.01x2 + 0.02x1 = 0.01x1.67 + 0.02xv'
.02+.02=.0167+.02v'
thus, we get
v'=1.165 m/s
