two point = (3,1),(7,-1) and the ratio is 2:3(internally). find x coordinate of the point
CASE1
X1=3, X2=7 M=2 AND N=3
X= (14+9)/5 =23/5
CASE 2
IF X1=7 AND X2 =3
X= 6+21/5=27/5 please clear this doubt why the value is different ??

Dear Student,

Look into the above figure.It gives you two points A and B and both are in the ratio 2:3 internally.However,one point is from the end having co-ordinates (3,1) and the other from the end having co-ordinates (7,-1).
Thus,in this question since we take the point from the left end,the first point is correct.This means we take the formula as (mx1 + nx2)/m + n,where x1 = 3 and x2= 7.
