Two spherical conductors each of capacity C are charged to potentials V and -V.These are than connected by means of a fine wire. What is the loss of energy?Sir please answer this question.

Hello,

The energy stored in the sphere with positive potential is, (1/2)CV2
The energy stored in the sphere with negative potential is, (1/2)C(-V)2 = (1/2)CV2
Total energy of the system before they are connected is = (1/2)CV2 + (1/2)CV2 = CV2

When the spheres are connected all the charges on the spheres are discharged because the spheres had equal and opposite charges. And the potential becomes zero.

Hence, all the energy is lost. That is, the energy lost is = CV2

Hope this helps,
