Skeletal tissue is divided into bone and cartilage.
- Bone is strong and nonflexible connective tissue. It has hard matrix made of proteins, calcium and phosphorus. Canaliculi connections are present between bone cells, osteocyte. It provides shape and skeletal support to the body.
- Cartilages are flexible connective tissue. Matrix is made of proteins and sugars. Canaliculi connections are absent between chondrocytes. It provide support and flexibility to the body and also smoothen bone surfaces at joints. It is found in nose, ear , trachea and larynx.​
