The term legislature means a place/organisation/branch for making law. Legislature is that part/organ/system of the government that passes and formulates the laws of the government. Functions of the Legislature
1. Law-maker/making authority:
  The most important function to play for the legislature is to make laws. In earlier times, laws were made/derived from proper customs, traditions and religious methods or were imposed by the kings as their orders or commands. In the contemporary era democracy, legislature is the upper most creator of law. It is the legislature which gives power to every individual to live with freedom and dignity.
2. Deliberate function:
  Another function of the legislature is to consider the matters of national importance, problems and needs of people and public issues. Legislature reflects public views or opinions on various issues through this function. Discussion and debates leaves greater values for the people.
3. Custodian of National Finances:
   Legislature holds the pocket of the nation and controls the finances. Without the permission from the legislature, no money van be touched or moved. Each year the budget formed has to be prepared to get approved from the legislature. The executive preparing the budget has to mention the the account of the actual income and expenditure of the following a year and estimated income and expenditure for the next year. The legislature maintains the control of all the financial transactions of the executive.
4. Control over Executive:
  The legislature has the power to control the executive. The legislature has the power to remove the executive by rejecting a policy or budget. For all the actions, decisions or policies the executive is accountable before the legislature. Legislature has the Prime Minister and all the other ministers under its membership list.
