Under what circumstances does the President exercise his discretion in the appointment of the Prime Minister ? Who appoints the other ministers.

Dear Student
Please find below the solution to the asked query:
1.  The President invites the leader of the majority party or a coalition to form the government. However, if no party or a coalition has secured a majority, it is here the President exercises his/her discretion to invite a person whom he thinks can muster majority support in the Lok Sabha to form the government. The President may then ask the newly appointed Prime Minister to prove his majority on the floor of the house within a specified time.
2.  Other Ministers are appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
