Sexual reproduction is most effective for passing on one's genes and avoiding extinction. The major advantage of sexual reproduction over asexual reproduction is that it generates variation in the next generation and makes them more suited for the changing environment. Some genes which were lethal or disadvantageous, which may cause extinction of a particular species, could be lost in the genetic recombination. Thus, it ensures survival of species in a population. However, in asexual reproduction exact sequence of parent DNA has been copied. So, there are no chances of diversity and variation in the genes. Hence, lethal genes cant be lost making species prone to extinction.
