We have a federal form of government where power is divided between the center and the constituent units i.e the states. In order to ensure better governance and administration State governments are established to look after the affairs of the states along with the Central or Union government.

a.  Central Executive comprises of the President who is the head of the state and the Prime Minister who is the head of the government and his Council of Ministers.The constitution formally vests all the executive powers in the president , which he exercises through the Prime Minister and the Council of ministers.The Central Executive looks after the affairs of the country and implement national policies .They are responsible and accountable to the Union Parliament.

b.  State Executive comprises of the Governor, the chief minister and his ministers who implement the policies made by the state legislatures and are responsible to them.
