Explain types of emission spectra.

When emitted radiation is passed directly through the prism and is received on the photographic plate, the spectrum obtained is called as Emission spectra.
Depending on the source of  radiation, it is mainly of two types-
1) Continuous spectrum : when a white light from any source like sun, bulb is analysed by passing through a prism , it is observed that is splits up into 7 different colours ( VIBGYOR). These colours are so continuous that they merge into the next, thus giving a continuous spectrum.
2) Line spectrum : When the light produced by heating a salt like NaCl is resolved in a spectroscope, it is found that no continuous spectra is observed  but some isolated coloured lines are obtained on the photographic plate separated from each other. This spectra is line spectra
