Since the point of division be P and since it lies on y- axis, so its coordinates are (0, y).

Let P divide the line segment joining points (–2, –3) and (3, 7) internally in the ratio k:1

So,

$(0, y) = \frac{3 k - 2}{k + 1}, \frac{7 k - 3}{k + 1} \Rightarrow \frac{3 k - 2}{k + 1} = 0 \Rightarrow 3 k - 2 = 0 \Rightarrow k = \frac{2}{3}$

So, the point P divides the line segment in the ratio 2:3

$\frac{7 k - 3}{k + 1} = y \frac{7 \times \frac{2}{3} - 3}{\frac{2}{3} + 1} = \frac{\frac{5}{3}}{\frac{5}{3}} = 1 = y T h u s t h e p o int P = (0, 1)$
