waht is N/4HCl?

Dear Student,

Normality: The normality is a term used for calculation of concentration of solute in solutions generally, and is defined as the number of the gram equivalents of the solute present in per liter of the solution. It is represented by symbol "N" . Here gram equivalent of a solute is the mass of solute in grams present in equivalent mass of the solute.

So, No. of gram equivalent = mass of solute in gm / equivalent mass of the solute

Normality (N) = Gram equivalent of solute / Vol. of solution in L

N/4HCl means the normality of given solution of HCl is 1/4 N

It implies that the solution of HCl is 0.25 N. So, according to formula of normality 0.25 gram equivalent of HCl is present in 1 L of the solution.
