water is a compound not a mixture .justify it by giving two reasons

Hi,

Water is a compound can be supported by the following facts:

1) Its constituents Hydrogen and oxygen are always present in the same ratio as 2:1(H2O)

2) Its properties are different from its constituent elements(hydrogen and oxygen)

3) Its constituents cannot be separated by simple physical means but requires chemical methods and it has a fixed boiling point.

@ Hemivenkat and Rajat, good answers. Keep it up!!!!!!

Water is a compound and not a mixture because it has a fixed ratio. Another reason is that when we mix two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom we get water, it is a total new compound.

Also it does not have the properties of its constituents

Hope you got it!!

1 It can't be separated into its constituents by physical methods.

2 water has fixed boiling point
