wats intermolecular forces of interaction ??

Dear user!

When molecules or ions are in close proximity to one another, they are attracted by intermolecular forces.

These forces involve the columbic attraction between negative and positive charges. The charges on ions and atoms vary markedly in size, and so the strengths of intermolecular forces also vary markedly. Substances with strong intermolecular forces are generally solid at room temperature, whereas those with very weak intermolecular forces are usually gases. Substances with moderate intermolecular forces are often liquid at room temperature.

There are four types of intermolecular forces of attraction:

  ·  Ion-dipole forces

  ·  Dipole-dipole forces

  ·  Dipole-induced dipole forces

  ·  Induced dipole-induced dipole forces

Hope this answers your question,

Best Wishes!
