we know that equilibrium constant depends on stoichiometric coefficient and not on concentration of reactant what is difference between two also while solving problem like decomposition of HI TO H2 & I2 coefficient of HI should be 1or2

Dear Student,

The equilibrium constant varies based on the reactant concentration and is mathematically expressed for HI dissociation reaction scheme as,

2HIH2+I2K=[H2][I2][HI]2HI12H2+12I2K=[H2]12[I2]12[HI]

Look if you take the reaction in this way:
HI =>H2 + I2      and say equilibrium constant be K for this reaction

Now, if you take the reaction in this way:
HI  => 1/2 H2 + 1/2 I2    then equilibrium constant for this reaction becomes (K)^1/2
