what advantage do pla nts get by having mostly dead cells?

Plants are made up of different types of cells. Some are dead(sclerenchyma) and some are living(collenchyma). The dead cells provides strength and support to the plant parts due to which plants stand erect. They can also withstand strong winds because of these dead cells.
