What are anticline and syncline?? (Related to geography)

Dear Student,
When sediments and remains are deposited on seabed and are compressed due to various forces of nature and because of these forces they get squeezed and folded layers and form a large range of mountain chains such as The Himalayas. The mountains formed by this process are called fold mountains.
Anticlines and synclines are the up fold and down fold (structural trap) of the mountain that generally happens together and is brought about by compressional stress and formed into an arch-like shape due to movements of the Earth. Anticlines are folds in which every 50% of the overlap plunges from the peak. Synclines are folds in which every 50% of the crease plunges toward the trough of overlap.
