What are cell organelles ? And what are the function of all cell organelles of animal cell and plant cell ?

Dear Student,

A group of tissues that perform a specific function or group of functions is called organ. These specific structures present inside the cell that have specific functions to perform in different cell metabolic activities. Small organs present within cell are called cell organelles . For example: Mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi complex, etc.

The major different cell organelles are as follows:
  • Nucleus - responsible for controlling the activity of the cell, as well as cell division
  • Endoplasmic reticulum - provides a transport channel within the cell
  • Ribosomes - help in protein synthesis
  • Golgi bodies - help in cell secretion
  • Mitochondria - powerhouse of the cell; liberates energy in the form of ATP
  • Vacuoles - store cell sap (mainly found in plant cells)
  • Plastids - occur in plant cells; responsible for storing pigments
  • Lysosomes - It contains many hydrolysing enzymes which are used in the process of lysis. It is known as suicidal bag.
  • Centrioles - present only in animal cells; help in spindle formation during cell division
  • Cell membrane - a semi permeable membrane that control, cellulose ls the inflow and outflow of substances
  • Cell wall - present only in plant cells; non -living, cellulose structure
Lysosomes and centrioles are found in animal cell while chloroplast iand cell wall are present only in plant cell. While rest are common to both.

Cell organelles are the specific structures present inside the cell that have specific functions to perform in different cell metabolic activities. They are mostly membrane bound. Mitochondria, ribosome, plastid, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, golgi apparatus etc are cell organelles.
