What are functions of root in a plant

Dear Student,

The following are the functions of roots.
(i)   Roots anchor the plant in the soil.
(ii)  Roots absorb water and mineral salts from the soil.
(iii) Roots form a passageway for water and dissolved substances from the soil into the stem and also for food material from the stem down into the roots.  
(iv) It also acts as storage tissue - like carrot, beet root, etc
