what are geostationary satellites ? calculate the height of the orbit above the surface of the earth in which a satellite , if placed , will appear stationary

Dear student

A geo-stationary satellite is satellite with the orbital period same as the period of earth.
The time period of geostationary satellite is given by
T=2πRR+h3gR+h=gR2T24π21/3where T=24 hours=86400 s, g=9.8 m/s2, R=6.37×106 mso R+h=9.8×6.37×1062×8640024×3.1421/3R+h=42.22×106 mh=42.22-6.37×106 mh=35.85×106 m

A geostationary satellite is an earth-orbiting satellite, placed at an altitude of approximately 35,800 kilometers (22,300 miles) directly over the equator, that revolves in the same direction the earth rotates (west to east).
