what are inguinal canal?

  • Inguinal canal is an oblique passage through the lower abdominal wall.
  • In males, it is the passage through which the testes descend into the scrotum and it contains the spermatic cord. The epididymis leads to vas deferens that ascends to the abdomen through inguinal canal and loops over the urinary bladder.
  • In females it is not much prominent and transmits the round ligament of the uterus.

the inguinal canal is a passage in the anterior (toward the front of the body) abdominal wall which in men conveys the spermatic cord and in women the round ligament. The inguinal canal is larger and more prominent in men. Each person has two, on the left and right sides of the abdomen.
