WHAT ARE RADICALS ?

The neutral atom or group which contains an unpaired electron is called radical. The cation or anion are also known as radical. for example

NO3- , SO2-4, and PO3-4

Radicals a.k.a. polyatomic ions, are ions formed by a group of atoms. E.g. OH-, NH4+ etc..

Radicals  are atoms, molecules, or ions with unpaired electrons or an open shell configuration. Free radicals may have positive, negative, or zero charge. With some exceptions, these unpaired electrons cause radicals to be highly chemically reactive.
