What are the 2 phases involved in the mechanism of Absorption of elements? Explain them

Absorption of elements in plants includes two main phases, first phase is a passive absorption, and the second phase is an active absorption.

1. Passive absorption involves the absorption of minerals by simple diffusion or facilitated diffusion along the concentration gradient by root cells without the utilisation of metabolic energy.
2. Active absorption involves the absorption of minerals by root cells against concentration gradient by utilising metabolic energy. ​
