What are the benefits of layering and tissue culture?
Artificial methods of vegetative propagation are man - made and developed by plant growers and Horticulturists for commercial production of crops. Layering is one of the common artificial methods. In layering, roots are artificially induced on stem branches before they are detached from the parent plant for propagation.
Advantages/Benefits:
- Easy to grow
- Success rate is high
- Economical and quick method
Tissue culture is a propagation method used to produce plants under sterile conditions. This method uses plant parts (Explants) that have been sterilized before being placed in suitable suspension medium to grow.
Advantages/benefits:
- This technique is employed for quick manipulation of commercially important plants such as Orchids, Dahlia etc.
- Micro propagated plants are free from viruses and show increased productivity and yield.
