What are the characteristic of Water of Crystallization?

Dear student,

Water molecules forming an essential part of the crystal structure of some compounds .
Water of crystallization is also termed as water of hydration
Are water molecules which are present inside   crystals. These water of crystallization can also be removed by heating the crystal or dample but the crystalline properties are often lost.
Classically, water of hydration alludes to water molecules that is found in the crystalline framework of a metal salt. which is not directly attached to the metal cation.
Hydrated crystal of salt does not mean that the  salt is wet. The water molecule is not bonded with the metal cation directly.
For example-
CuSO4 • 5H2O - copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate
CoCl2 • 6H2O - cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate

Regards!
