What are the characteristics of particle of matter? Write full answer!
Dear Student
Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass. For example: Pen, wood, water, oxygen etc. Matter is broadly divided into 3 categories: solid, liquid and gas.
Matter is made up of particles that determine the matter's physical and chemical properties.
Particles that constitute matter have a few characteristics such as:
1. They are very small in size.
2. Particles of matter have space between them - this space is the least in solid and most in gases.
3. They are in constant motion or they move constantly - their motion increases with the rise in temperature. This is because the particles possess kinetic energy.
4. Particles exert force of attraction on each other.
