THE HEAD OF A   MATCHSTICK HAS ANTIMONY TRISULPHIDE & POTTASIUM CHLORATE WHICH IS APPLIED ON SPECIAL WOOD WITH SOME GLUE . THE RUBBING SURFACE HAS POWDERED GLASS & A SMALL AMNT OF RED PHOSPHORUS . WEN MATCHSTICK IS STRUCK AGAINST A ROUGH SURFACE THE RED PHOSPHORUS GETS CONVERTED TO WHITE PHOSPHORUSWHICH FURTHER REACTS WITH POTTASIUM CHLORATE IN THE MATCHSTICKS HEAD .THIS CHEMICAL REACTION PRODUCES SUFFICIENT HEAT FOR THE IGNITION OF ANTIMONY TRISULPHIDE& THE START OF THE COMBUSTION REACTION......... UNDERSTOOD THE WHOLE PROCESS & THE WHOLE PROCESS TAKES PLACE IN SECONDS........
