what are the difference between mycobiont and phycobiont?

Phycobiont:the green algal photosynthetic partner in a lichen symbiosis. Mycobiont:the fungal component of lichen. In general terms, the photobiont supplies the association organic carbon from photosynthesis, and the mycobiont ensures protection, and regulates the supply of minerals and water. Thumbs up if it was useful..

The algal component of the lichen is called phycobiont and fungal component is known as mycobiont. Phycobiont prepare food for fungi and mycobiont provides shelter and absorb mineral nutrients and water for its partner.

The ultrastructure of the phycobionts is similar to that of free-living algae. The mycobionts displayed structural differences in their walls which apparently are unrecorded for fungus hyphae, resulting in a striking polymorphism of the hyphae

Lichens are symbotic associations i.e. mutually useful associations,b/w algae and fungi. The algal component is known as Phycobiont and fungal component is known as Mycobiont. Phycobiont are autotrophic whereas Mycobiont are heterotrophic.
