what are the drawbacks of classical physics

Following are the drawbacks of classical physics

  1. When the velocity of the particle becomes nearer to the velocity of light, measurement of mass of the particle is found to be increased, time of the frame is found to decrease is found to decrease. These cannot be explained on the basis of classical physics.
  2. Classical physics is found to be inconsistent with Maxwell’s electrodynamics.
  3. Classical physics fails to account for wave like nature of the microscopic particles, blackbody radiation anomalous Zeeman effect fine structures in atomic spectra and photoelectric effect.
  4. Classical physics fails to explain the motion of heavenly bodies in strong gravitational fields e.g. motion of mercury at its perihelion and also it cannot explain bending of light in vicinity of massive gravitational bodies, gravitational lensing etc.

There is a wealth of observable effects in the quantum world which cnt be understood in the framework of classical mechanics or classical electrodynamics.Instead of listing them all one by one I choose two characteristic examples that show very clearly that the description with classical physics is incomplete and must be supplemented by some new, fundamental principles. These are:the quantization of atomic bound states which does not follow from the kepler's problem for a electron in the feild of a positve point charge, and the electromagnetic radiation emitted by an electron bound in an atom which, is a purely classical framework, would render atomic quantum states unstable. When we talk about "classical" here and in the sequel we mean every domain of physics where Planck's constant does not play a quantitative role and, therefore can be neglected to a very good approximation
