what are the drawbacks of rutherford model??? can u plz explain??

In Rutherford atom model, an electron is revolving around the nucleus and is constantly experiencing a centripetal force. Therefore , the electron has an accelerated motion. According to classical electromagnetic theory, the electron must radiate energy in the form of electromagnetic waves. As the revolving electron loses energy, it must spiral inwards and eventually fall into the nucleus as shown in the following diagram

As matter is stable, we cannot expect the atoms to collapse.

Further according to electromagnetic theory ,

The frequency of em waves emitted by revolving electron = frequency of revolution of electron. As the revolving electrons spiral inwards, their angular velocities and hence their frequencies of revolution would change continuously. Therefore , frequency of em waves emitted must change continuously. Therefore atoms should emit continuous spectrum, but what we observe is only a line spectrum.

Rutherford suggested that electron perform uniform accelerated motion but as the motion is acc. they radiate energy in form of Electromagnetic Radiation, their energy decreases as a result radius of orbit decreases and finally terminate into nucleus.

Rutherford's atom had a small, dense, positively charged nucleus (although he didn't call it that) with electrons orbiting around the outside. The major problem with that concept is that as a charged particle moves, it must radiate energy. Eventually, the electrons orbiting around the nucleus would lose whatever energy got them there in the first place. Then, once the energy has been lost, there's nothing to keep the negatively charged electrons from being pulled into the positively charged nucleus, and having the atom implode.

Bohr came up with the concept of having electrons carry fixed amounts of energy (quanta) that keeps them at a certain distance from the nucleus. In order to be drawn into the nucleus, they have to give off that quanta of energy, and they can't do that from the lowest energy position.
