What are the factors affecting the angle of deviation ?

Angle of deviation:

The angle between the incident ray and the emergent ray is called angle of deviation.

Example: In a prism the angle of deviation is shown.

The required relation is, i + e = A + δ

‘i' is the angle of incidence

‘e’ is the angle of emergence

‘A’ is the angle of prism

‘δ’ is the angle of deviation

and A=r1+r2

where r1 and r2 are the refracting angles.

Thus angle of deviation depends on

(1)Angle of incidence

(2)angle of prism

(3)Refractive index and the wavelength of light incident ( as the light of shorter wavelength will deviate more and longer wavelength will deviate less.

the factors affecting the angle of deviation are as follows:

1)the angle of incidence.

2)refractive index or the material of the prism

3)angle of prism(A)

4)color or wavelength of the light used
