What are the factors on which the resistance of a substance depends ? Anyone here ? -_- Answer this _/l_

Dear Student,

The resistance of a substance is dependent on the following factors:
  • Length: Resistance is directly proportional to the length of the conductor. So as the length increases the value of resistance increases.
  • Cross-sectional area: Resistance is inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area of the conductor. So as the cross-sectional area increases the value of resistance decreases.
  • Resistivity: Resistance depends upon resistivity which is a proportionality constant and depends on the nature of substance and temperature. It is inversely proportional to resistance.
  • Temperature: As the temperature increases, the value of resistivity increases and so resistance increases.
