what are the prerequisites for a political party in a democracy?
Prerequisite of a National party are as under:
1. If a party is recognised as a state party in 4 or more states.
2. If a party has secured more than 2% of seats in Lok Sabha from 3 or more states.
3. It secures 6% of votes in 4 or more states in Lok Sabha and overall 4 seats.
Prerequisite of State Parties :
These are parties which secure at least 6% of the total votes in an election to the legislative assembly of a state and win at least 2 seats.
Most of the regional political parties function in one or two states and represent the political interests of their states.
