Steps are as follows:
Primary treatment:
 Separating solid waste from water through physical processes.
Secondary treatment
1) Removing contaminants through biological processes. Microorganisms are used for this process.
2) Chemical treatment by which remaining contamination is removed and killing all the microorganisms present in the water making this water usable.
Tertiary treatment
 Removal of chemical traces and dissolved solids in water
