Two intrinsic mechanisms to provide autoregulation of glomerular filtrate are:
1. Myogenic mechanism
2. Tubuloglomerular feedback mechanism
Myogenic mechanism: In this the smooth muscle depolarize on stretching which leads to the contraction of muscle. This results in decrease in rate of flow of blood. On relaxation, ion channels closes and vasodilation of blood vessels occurs which increases rate of blood flow through lumen. In this way, flow of blood within the blood vessel remains constant.
