Causes for Partition of Bengal

1.  The Britishers wanted to separate the Hindus and the Muslims to weaken the national movement in Bengal as it was very strong. 2.  This was the real intention of the Britishers but the reason that was given to Indians for the partition of Bengal was that since it was too big in relation to area it was difficult to administer and govern the region.
3.  Hence it  was important to divide it so that it could be governed efficiently.

Consequences of Partition of Bengal
1.  Large scale protests by the people led to picketing of shops.
2. It led to Swadeshi and Boycott movement.
3. It encouraged the use of Swadeshi goods and it encouraged active participation of people especially women.
4. National educational institutions were set up and affected major trade interests of British
5. It resulted in the rise of revolutionary terrorism and gave new dimension to freedom struggle.
