what causes the formation of various biomes?

Biomes are formed because of variations in environmental conditions like water availability and temperature. Specific plant and animal life adapts there according to the environment. For ex. Regions closer to the equator and at lower latitudes (00-200) receive the sunlight directly and have high temperatures (desert). Regions at high latitudes (600-900) receive the lowest sunlight and have low temperatures (tundra and taiga). Biomes located at middle latitudes (300-600) receive more sunlight than those located at high latitudes and have moderate temperature (grasslands, cold deserts). Amount of precipitation, soil nutrients, soil moisture and length of the growing seasons are other factors affecting the biome formation and thus different life forms in different conditions.
