What change occurs and name the defect when Nacl is doped with SrCl2

Dear Student,

When NaCl is doped with SrCl2, it leads to an impurity defect.
Impurity defect is defined as a defect which arises when a foreign atom replaces a host atom at the lattice site.
The process of adding impurities to the crystal is known as doping.

In the given case,  to maintain electrical neutrality, each Sr2+ ion replaces two Na+ ions. Thus, there is a production of cationic vacancies leading to a decrease in the density of the crystal.

Hope it helps.

Impurity defect !! .. 2 of Na+ ions from two lattices get replaced by one Sr2+ so one of the lattice become vacant and one get occupied with Sr2+
