what conflicts did D.H Lawrence face in playing host to the snake ? {2 marks question}

Dear Student,
Given below is the answer to your question.

The poet has many different feelings regarding the snake. At first the poet respects the snake as a guest and lets it drink water at the trough in peace. The poet was glad to have a guest and expressed his feelings by comparing its gestures to that of harmless cattle. Soon the other voice in his head reminded him of how a snake can be dangerous to a man. The poet was compelled to think ill of his guest and ends up throwing a log at it to save himself from a creature who hadn't come with an intention to harm the poet. Finally, the poet feels ashamed of his gesture and resolves to wait for the snake until the next time it arrives at the trough and then the poet would once again admire it.
