What do we mean by subject in grammar. State some example

Dear Student,

The subject of a sentence is the person, place, thing, or idea that is doing or being something. One can find the subject in any sentence if he/she knows the verb in the sentence.

For example if the verb expresses action - like sneeze, jump, bark, or study - the subject is who or what does the verb.

In the sentence - During the exam, Tommy danced on the table.

Danced is the verb and Tommy is the subject as he is the one who danced.
