These are also known as lithospheric plates. These are huge and irregular shaped piece of solid rock, mainly composed of both continental and oceanic lithosphere. Earth's outermost layer i.e lithosphere is made up of the crust and upper mantle is broken into large rocky plates. This lithosphere rocky plates are called as tectonic plates. These plates are so huge that it can cover an entire continents. Pacific and Antarctic Plates are amongst the largest tectonic plates.
