As a child, Tagore also hated going to school. He found it suffocating and oppressive. The experience of his schooldays in Calcutta shaped together his ideas of education. On growing years he wanted to set up a school where a child was happy, where he/she could be free, creative and was able to explore their own thoughts and desires. He was of the view that creative learning could be encouraged only within a natural environment. So he set up his school 100km away from Calcutta I. A rural setting. He saw it as an abode of peace (Santiniketan) where living in harmony with nature, children could cultivate their natural creativity.

Abode of Peace
As a child Rabindranath Tagore hated going to school. He found the classes suffocating and oppressive as he was always under strict supervision and was thought discipline. the school appeared like a prison ,for he could never do what he felt like or  likes to do. While the other students listened to the teacher and focused in the class, Tagore's mind would wander away. He created this school so the students could do what they want to do could be free and creative. Tagore felt that childhood ought to be a time of self learning .
