I think that he felt bad.As herealised that he had indeed been a victim of forgetfulness as he forgotten meaning of friendship and not done anything for his childhood friend chunilal.

He was felt very ashamedof himself for being a self centered man.At the same tym he felt great relief from the stress he was undergoing.

He would have felt angry at his friend for the first time but than he realised that it was his mistake that he did so with his childhood friend at the same time he may be relaxed from the stress he was undergoing from since a long period and may be after recovering he might have found a parttime job for him as now his friend has became a writer
