What do you think is the writer's purpose behind giving such a long list of people who have been frightened by the ghost?

The author has listed the Ghost's accomplishments by giving so many people's names who have been scared by him. In contrast, he has described the members of the Otis family who are not in the least frightened by him or his antics. Rather, they end up terrifying and frustrating him!
