A holistic and ecological view of the world is one which rejects the separation of nature and society into two separate realms. Rather it accepts the view that the earth itself is a living organism — an enormous being of which we are parts. It has its own metabolic needs and vital processes, which need to be respected and preserved. It views humans and the environment as a single system.
