what efforts does father make to understand the child?

The father knows that there is a lack of understanding between him and his son but, he cannot approve of his son's desires and wishes to establish himself some place else. He wants his son to develop and stay on the land that he had worked on and wantsthe sonto return to his house. However, aware of the lack of understanding he attempts to sort out things saying that he would forgive all that his son had done so far that had been irksome to him. Thus, though he still does not understand his son's point of view, he desperately yearns for a reconciliation.
